Chemical Guys Butter Wet Wax Review: Maximum Shine, Minimum Effort

Butter Wet Wax is exactly what its name promises. It has the consistency of soft butter, spreads across a panel with no drag, wipes off in one pass and leaves the deep, wet look that made Chemical Guys' reputation. A whole car takes twenty minutes and smells like a banana milkshake the entire time. There is no easier way to make a car look freshly detailed.

The look

The gloss is the reason to buy it. A high carnauba content plus gloss-enhancing oils produce a depth on dark paint that only Gold Class approaches at the price, and Butter Wet does it with none of Gold Class's fussiness about sun or thickness. It is also one of the few waxes that's genuinely safe on glass and polished aluminum without hazing.

The honesty section

Those oils fill fine swirls, which makes the paint look better than it is. That's fine for a show, but it means Butter Wet Wax can hide the defects a compound like Ultimate Compound should be removing. And the protection is brief. Beading is impressive for two weeks, adequate for four, and gone by six on a daily driver in weather. It offers little resistance to winter salt.

Chemical Guys are candid that it's a show wax. Used as one, over a sealant like Collinite 845 or a spray sealant like Bead Maker that does the protecting, it's a fantastic topper that adds warmth to a sealant's flat gloss.

Who should buy it
