Gyeon Wet Coat Review: Protection in the Time It Takes to Rinse

4.4

Our Verdict

The quickest protection we list: spray one or two pumps on each wet panel after washing, rinse hard, and dry. Gyeon rates it for up to 12 weeks and about 80 ml per car. It must not dry on the paint, it works best with a pressure washer, and Gyeon is clear it doesn't replace a coating. As a fast top-up, it's excellent.

Every other protection product asks you to dry the car first. Gyeon Wet Coat skips that step. You spray it onto wet paint straight after washing and blast it off with water, and the car comes out beading. There's no buffing, no flash time and no applicator. Gyeon rates the result for up to 12 weeks depending on conditions.

What you get

A 500 ml bottle of a hydrophobic sealant that Gyeon says is safe on paint, trim, metal, wheels and glass, on both coated and uncoated cars. Consumption is listed at about 80 ml per car, so the bottle is good for roughly six applications. Gyeon cites a pH tolerance of 2 to 11. It's worth being clear about what it isn't: Gyeon itself says Wet Coat provides temporary protection and does not replace a ceramic coating.

Application

Wash the car thoroughly and leave it wet. Working one panel at a time, apply one or two sprays evenly, then rinse immediately with strong water pressure. Move to the next panel and repeat, then dry the car as usual. The whole process adds a few minutes to a wash. It's especially handy for wheels, grilles and other shapes that are tedious to wipe a sealant into.

Where it falls short

The one firm rule is that it must not dry on the surface, which makes hot panels, direct sun and wind a bad combination. It also really wants a pressure washer; a gentle hose stream isn't the strong rinse Gyeon specifies. Overspray lands wherever the mist goes, so rinse the whole car well. And at up to 12 weeks, durability is in sealant territory. A wipe-on spray such as Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Spray Coating is rated to last considerably longer.

Who it's for

Owners with a pressure washer who want the fastest possible protection, and coated-car owners who want to refresh beading between proper maintenance. It pairs naturally with the rest of the Gyeon line, which we compare in Gyeon vs. CarPro. Check price on Amazon.
