The fastest-cutting compound most people can buy, and still a benchmark for removing sanding marks and severe defects. It demands technique: short working time, some dust, and a finishing polish afterward are the price of that speed. For heavy correction on hard paint nothing here beats it per dollar.
M105 is the compound that made Meguiar's professional line famous, and the reason is simple: super micro-abrasives that don't diminish. Unlike consumer compounds that lose their bite as you work them, M105 cuts at full strength from the first pass to the last. On a rotary with a wool pad it removes 1200-grit sanding marks. On a DA with a microfiber pad it takes deep swirls and severe oxidation off hard German clear coats that Ultimate Compound merely dents.
Why professionals reach for it
Speed. A neglected panel that takes three passes of a consumer compound takes one pass of M105. On body-shop paint being refined after wet sanding, there are very few products that work as quickly. The 8 oz bottle looks small next to 16 oz consumer bottles, but it is used in pea-sized amounts and lasts through several cars.
The learning curve
The non-diminishing abrasives are also why it is unforgiving. Working time is short — in warm weather it can flash dry in thirty seconds — and once it dries it dusts, cakes on the pad and stops cutting. The technique is small sections, a slightly damp pad, quick overlapping passes and a pad clean every section. Newer users who treat it like Ultimate Compound and work it for a minute end up with a hazy, dusty mess and conclude it doesn't work.
It also does not finish. Even on hard paint, M105 leaves micro-marring that needs a finishing polish — its partner M205, or Griot's BOSS Perfecting Cream — before the finish is show-ready. It is a two-step product by design.
Who should buy it
Anyone with defects that Ultimate Compound couldn't remove, anyone correcting hard paint with a long-throw machine like the RUPES LHR15, and anyone doing sanding repairs.
