Meguiar's Ultimate Liquid Wax Review: The Easy Sealant

Despite the name, there's no wax in Ultimate Liquid Wax. It is a synthetic polymer sealant, and that is why it behaves the way it does: thin, slick, clean to remove and durable well past the point a carnauba has given up. Meguiar's reformulated it in 2020 for more gloss and longer beading, and the current bottle is the best mainstream sealant on the shelf.

Application

This is the product to give someone who has never waxed a car. It spreads paper-thin with a foam applicator or a finishing pad on a DA, hazes in a few minutes, and wipes off without powder, streaks or effort. Crucially, it is trim-safe: get it on black plastic and it wipes away rather than leaving the white stain carnaubas like Gold Class do. That alone saves an hour of tape.

Durability and look

Expect around three months of tight beading and easy washing from a single coat, more if the car is garaged. The gloss is bright and reflective rather than deep and warm; on white, silver and lighter colors it looks superb, and on black it looks clean without the wet-look depth a carnauba adds. Topping it with a carnauba spray wax gets both.

Against Collinite 845 it loses on longevity by a couple of months and wins on every aspect of the application experience. Against ceramic sprays it loses on longevity and wins on price and forgiveness.

Where it stops

It needs clean paint to bond; over a glaze or an old carnauba it slides around and doesn't last. Strip the surface first. And shake the bottle — the polymers settle.

Who should buy it
