Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Spray Coating Review: The Budget Benchmark

4.6

Our Verdict

An SiO2 polymer spray that Turtle Wax rates for up to 12 months and approves for paint, glass, trim, wheels and headlights. Two mists per section, wipe, buff, and add a second coat a day later for more life. The rating is a best case and heavy spraying smears. For the money, it's the spray coating to beat.

When Turtle Wax launched the Hybrid Solutions line, Ceramic Spray Coating was the product that made enthusiasts take the brand seriously again. It is an SiO2 polymer spray sold in auto parts stores at an ordinary price, and Turtle Wax rates it for up to 12 months of water-repelling, chemical-resistant protection. It has become the yardstick other spray coatings are measured against.

What you get

A 16-ounce trigger bottle and nothing else, so add two clean microfiber towels. Turtle Wax approves it for all exterior surfaces, including glass, headlights, trim and wheels, with one exception: it is not recommended for soft convertible tops. Because the directions call for very little product, a bottle lasts many applications.

Application

This is a spray-and-wipe product. Wash and dry the car first. Turtle Wax says no further surface prep is required but recommends claying for best results, and that advice is worth taking. Shake the bottle, spray two mists onto a section about two feet square, wipe it into the finish with a microfiber towel, then flip to a dry side and buff. Move on panel by panel. Unusually, Turtle Wax says it can be applied in direct sunlight. For more durability, let the first coat cure for 24 hours before applying a second.

Where it falls short

The 12-month rating is the ceiling, and it assumes clean, decontaminated paint and ideally that second coat. On a car that was simply washed, expect less. Two mists really is the dose; spraying more makes it harder to buff clean and leaves smears, most visibly on dark paint. And it's still a spray sealant. It won't add the thickness or chemical resistance of a bottle coating like Gyeon One EVO.

Who it's for

Nearly anyone who wants months of ceramic-style protection for very little money or effort. It's also the sensible first step before committing to a full coating; see our ceramic coating guide for how the two categories compare. Check price on Amazon.
