CarPro CQuartz UK 3.0 Review: The Enthusiast Coating That Forgives Cold Garages

4.6

Our Verdict

A true SiO2 bottle coating in a kit that includes the applicators, a leveling towel and Reload as a topper. CarPro rates it for two years or more and built it to tolerate cool, damp garages. The 30 ml bottle is tight for big vehicles and won't keep long once opened, and the prep takes a day. For a first real coating, it's a safe choice.

CQuartz UK 3.0 has been the default answer to “which real coating should I try first?” for years, and the reason is in the name. CarPro reformulated its original CQuartz for British weather, so this version tolerates cool, damp garages that make other coatings misbehave. The CQuartz UK 3.0 kit is a true bottle coating, which CarPro describes as 70 percent SiO2 and rates for two years or more of protection on paint, wheels, glass, plastic and metal.

What you get

The 30 ml kit is complete: the coating, an applicator block, microfiber suede applicator cloths, a suede leveling towel and a bottle of Reload to use as a topper. That last item matters. CarPro's instructions call for Reload either 30 to 60 minutes after the final coat or, if you miss that window, at least 12 hours later, and it protects the fresh coating from water spotting while it hardens.

Application

Prep is the whole job: wash, decontaminate, polish, then wipe every panel with a prep spray such as CarPro Eraser or Gyeon Prep so nothing oily sits under the coating. CarPro's working range is 40 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit, out of direct sun. Spread it in a crosshatch pattern, watch for the rainbow effect as it flashes, and level it within a few minutes. A second coat can go on after 45 to 60 minutes, and CarPro caps it at three. The surface has to stay dry for at least an hour, with 24 hours recommended. Our ceramic coating how-to walks through the full process.

Where it falls short

Thirty milliliters is not much. CarPro's guide is roughly 10 ml per coat, which leaves little margin for layering a large SUV. An opened bottle should be used within about six months, so the leftovers won't wait for next year's car. And like any true coating it locks in whatever is underneath, so skipped polishing shows for years.

Who it's for

Enthusiasts ready to move past sprays who want a proven formula with everything in the box. If a full day of prep sounds like too much, a spray coating is the better fit. Check price on Amazon.
