Gtechniq C6 Matte Dash Review: A Coating That Leaves the Dash Looking Stock
Our Verdict
C6 Matte Dash is a true coating for vinyl, plastic and rubberized trim that adds UV and abrasion resistance without adding gloss, plus an antimicrobial additive. Gtechniq puts durability at about four months. It needs careful prep, comes in a small bottle and does nothing for fibrous surfaces. For keeping a new dash looking exactly as delivered, it is a strong choice.
Most dashboard products are dressings: they sit on the surface, add some shine and wear off in a few weeks. Gtechniq C6 Matte Dash is a coating instead. It is made for the vinyl, plastic and rubberized finishes on dashboards and door cards, and Gtechniq says it adds abrasion resistance and UV protection without changing the gloss level of the trim. If your car left the factory with a flat, low-sheen dash, it stays that way.
What you get
A 100 ml bottle of the current AB version, which adds BioCote antimicrobial technology. Gtechniq claims treated surfaces kill 99.9% of bacteria, a selling point for steering-wheel surrounds, door pulls and other high-touch plastics. The finish is described as natural to the touch rather than slick, so there is no greasy film to attract dust or glare off the windshield.
How it's used
Prep matters more here than with a spray dressing. Gtechniq's directions are to shake the bottle, wear gloves, clean the surface with an interior cleaner such as its own Tri-Clean, and let everything dry completely. You then spray C6 onto a foam applicator, wipe it evenly over the panel and remove any residue with a clean microfiber. A neutral cleaner like P&S Xpress is a sensible prep step because it leaves nothing behind for the coating to sit on.
Where it falls short
Durability is about four months on average by Gtechniq's own figure, and the brand recommends reapplying on that schedule. That beats most dressings but it is not a coat-and-forget product. The bottle is small, and Gtechniq advises using it within 12 months of opening. It is also not suitable for suede, nubuck or any fibrous finish, so keep it away from Alcantara inserts. And it will not darken or revive faded trim the way a dressing such as CarPro PERL can.
Who it's for
Owners of newer cars who like the factory matte finish and want protection they do not have to think about every other week. If you want shine, look elsewhere in our dash and trim protectant guide. Check price on Amazon
